HONG KONG, Sept. 9, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- Youth Square has been organising 'YS Career Experience Programme' for eight consecutive years, offering work experience opportunities for youth. This year, due to the overwhelming demand for internship programmes amid the pandemic, the programme has been well received by youth with more than 1,000 applications. To provide more job opportunities to youth, we have not only launched a six-week career experience this year but also introduced a four-week career experience and a six-month performing arts trainee experience which have engaged nearly 40 interns in total.

Under the six-week career experience, interns were assigned to the department of their choice to experience and perform a whole spectrum of daily tasks while interns under the four-week career experience focused on specific projects, taking part in the overall project planning and implementation process. During the internship, each intern was assigned a designated mentor who took care of them and monitored their progress by providing guidance and timely feedback. Considering the ongoing pandemic, the programme has been running in a virtual format for the first time ever, allowing interns to work remotely instead of being physically present in office. While providing the flexibility of work, interns interacted with their mentors via virtual meetings regularly.

Leveraging on the venues at Youth Square and a team of theatrical services professionals, Youth Square has recruited six graduates this year who are interested in pursuing their career in the industry. The six-month performing arts trainee experience aims at discovering new talents through on-the-job training and grooming youth during the difficult time under the pandemic.

Chris Kwok, an intern of the programme who is a Year 3 student studying in Public Relations at Baptist University said, "Competition is fierce to get a summer internship during the pandemic! I am grateful for the opportunity provided by Youth Square, allowing me to have an opportunity to work in Corporate Communication Department and learn about being a professional practitioner in Corporate Communication, I believe it could definitely benefit my career development in the field!"

"As I have been interested in performing arts and stage management, it would be a great opportunity allowing me to learn the operation services at a performing arts venue with on-the-job training!" said Sweta Limbu, another intern of the programme who graduated from Higher Diploma in Stage and Live Entertainment Technology.

Youth Square has been providing a relaxed, reliable and safe environment for youth to explore every possibility of their potentials. Through organising internship programme every year, we hope the opportunities of career experience would help youth to develop their career plans that suits their interests and abilities.
