SINGAPORE, Sept. 5, 2011 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- In one of the most thought provoking and engaging presentations at last year's Hospital Efficiency Asia 2010 conference, Amir Firdaus Abdullah, Chief Executive Officer of Gleneagles Hospital Kuala Lumpur spoke about real-time bed management, and explained why bed management is to be designed to develop organizational-wide strategic management.

In his presentation, Amir talks about the importance knowing where the patients are and why the application should provide real-time views of bed occupancy across the whole enterprise.

"By monitoring how patients and staff move through the facility, hospitals can evaluate and improve the facility's overall workflow, delivering equipment and services in a timelier manner, and directing the flow of patients more intelligently. The result is faster turnaround, higher satisfaction and a lower per-patient cost of service delivery," explained Amir.

Joining Amir, who will be speaking again at 2nd Annual Hospital Efficiency Asia 2011 conference, is Dr. Umapathy Panyala, Chief Operating Officer of Apollo Hospitals, Bangalore.

Dr. Panyala explains that when it comes to building efficient hospitals, service delivery and hospitality go hand-in-hand in healthcare, but cost will be the greatest hurdle in providing both services economically.

"Cost effectiveness will be the greatest challenge in providing these options. Realizing that hospitality is an accepted ingredient in healthcare delivery, it is mandatory that one starts initiating projects in this direction. Already, there is demand from certain quarters of the society for these patient-centric amenities and this therefore becomes imperative for hospitals to provide it," he said.

2nd Annual Hospital Efficiency Asia 2011 will be held in Kuala Lumpur from 16th - 17th of November 2011, together with a site tour on 15 November 2011 and post-conference workshops on 18 November 2011.
