KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, July 24, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- National Instruments (NI) announced the opening of the National Instruments Academy & Innovation Nucleus (NI-AIN) with a soft launch event on the 5th July 2013 in Technology Park Malaysia. This is NI's largest shared services lab facility in the world with RM20 Million worth of hardware and software technology tools, a private public partnership between the Government of Malaysia and National Instruments.

The NI-AIN facility is one of the Entry Point Projects (EPP) within the Electrical & Electronics NKEA under the Economic Transformation Programme (ETP) spearheaded by NI, TPM and SMECORP, and facilitated by PEMANDU. This shared services lab facility is envisioned to be a small and medium enterprise (SME) incubator centre for high-value design and engineering services, and a technology commercialisation hub nestled in the industrial corridors of Malaysia. The setup of NI-AIN aims to lower entry barriers and enable access to facilities for SMEs to nurture innovation, develop the talent pool, build the capabilities and promote intellectual property creation amongst SMEs in Malaysia.

Located at Technology Park Malaysia (TPM) in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur, the facility occupies close to 10,000 square feet of floor space that will be used for training and certification, talents development programs in Science, Technology & Innovation (STI) and also enabling local SMEs to innovate across a wide range of industry applications such as control and instrumentation, radio frequency and wireless communication, green technology, renewable energy, transportation, oil and gas and agro-science.

NI-AIN is regarded as the knowledge hub for local SMEs, institutes of higher learning, multinationals, government-linked companies, research institutions as well as regional clients from ASEAN and OIC countries to utilise the hardware and software facilities, and also to tap into the knowledge network of NI LabVIEW certified users from all around the world. With this ecosystem, companies and users can leverage on the unified LabVIEW platform as the foundation to infinite designs and solutions in the measurement and control systems for a wide range of applications, and will assist the companies to accelerate productivity, innovation and discovery.

In conjunction with the NI-AIN facility, NI will also further aid the advancement of the local SME community through its engineering innovation and entrepreneurship program called Planet NI. The Planet NI program will help entrepreneurs in established small businesses and startups increase their access to world-class development tools, technical training, and technology-based markets so they can achieve sustainable prosperity and contribute to the socioeconomic development of the country nations.

The soft launch event was graced by the Minister in the Prime Minister's Department and CEO of PEMANDU, Senator Dato' Seri Idris Jala, together with more than 60 guests from Agensi Inovasi Malaysia (AIM), MDeC, TPM, PEMANDU and local universities.

There were also seven NI's local system integrator eco-partners invited to showcase their capabilities in designing and developing innovative solutions using NI technology platform across many industry applications. Amongst them are: Disturbance Fault Recorder for Energy Provider, In-Vehicle Data Logging System and Vessel Monitoring System by VISI; Semiconductor Parametric Test System by WEBSUITE; Real-time Landslide Monitoring & Early Warning System by iRADAR; Semiconductor Trim-and-Form Machine by ADVENXUS; and Optical Fetal Heart Rate Detection System by UKM.

The NI-AIN facility is now fully operational and open to use by all interested parties. Promotional and engagement programs will be rolled out soon to promote the facility to the targeted users.
