HONG KONG, Nov. 12, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- With the theme to develop a sustainable business model in serving the elderly, the top five finalist teams of the Degree and Sub-degree categories have been shortlisted amongst 532 teams to compete for the Championship at the ACCA Hong Kong Business Competition 2013. Organised by ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) Hong Kong, the final competitions will be held on 16 November (Degree) and 30 November (Sub-degree).

After reviewing the participating teams' proposals, the top five finalist teams of each of the degree and sub-degree categories have been selected to enter the Final Competitions. The finalist teams are from:

(Degree) City University of Hong Kong (2 teams), Hong Kong Baptist University, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, and The University of Hong Kong

(Sub-degree) Hong Kong College of Technology, Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (Chai Wan), Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (Tuen Mun), The Chinese University of Hong Kong - School of Continuing & Professional Studies, and The University of Hong Kong - SPACE

This year ACCA Hong Kong has invited HKCSS-HSBC Social Enterprise Business Centre (SEBC) as the Partner Organisation. Each contesting team is required to prepare a proposal based on a 2-year funding plan of HKD1 Million which aims at providing elderly (aged over 60) a "shop freely & serve friendly" shopping experience.

Innovation ideas from the contesting teams include memoir book / video production for elderly customers, elderly-friendly mobile dental clinic services, employing grass-root elderlies as coaches of a fitness centre, 'speed gathering' for elderlies to meet new friends, and many more.

The panel of judges comprises finance leaders and social enterprise experts will assess each contesting team according to the content of their business proposal, presentation skills and team work communication.

ACCA welcomes interested parties to attend the Final Competitions to support these outstanding students and appreciate their ideas on promoting quality consumption and shopping experience for the elderly.
