The Awards seek to underline ground-breaking and financially viable solutions that help meet the SDGs. Achievement in Sustainable Development awards will focus on health, food and water security, and education and skills, with particular attention given to the use of new technology and disruptive models. The annual award goes to start-up projects with innovative solutions and are open to all financial and non-financial private sector organisations.

The other six outstanding nominees from this year's Education, Knowledge & Skills Category include Aliat Universities (Mexico), Ashesi Universities (Ghana), Red Magisterial (Mexico), Enko Education, Phina Ma Education (Phillipines) and Nova Pioneer.
The panel of expert judges this year include Pilita Clark (Associate Editor, Financial Times), Stephanie Friedeburg (Chief Operating Officer, IFC- World Bank), Darren Welch (Director of Policy, UK Department for International Development and Kalipso Chalkidou (Director of Global Health Policy and Senior Fellow of Centre for Global Development).
In her opening speech, Pilita Clark (Associate Editor, Financial Times) described the FT-IFC award as the "Oscars" of Transformational Work.
