In the news release, Fujitsu Selects Veritas Access as the Next-Generation Storage Infrastructure to Support the Company's Cloud Service K5, issued 18-May-2018 by Veritas Technologies over PR Newswire, we are advised by the company that in the 1st sentence of the 4th paragraph under the sub-heading "Veritas Access -- an SDS approach to storage offering resilience and reliable performance", the title of "Masahiro Ota" should read "Head of Cloud Services Business Unit, Digital Services Business, Fujitsu Limited" rather than "Cloud Service Business Director, Fujitsu Limited" as originally issued inadvertently. The complete, corrected release follows:

Fujitsu Selects Veritas Access as the Next-Generation Storage Infrastructure to Support the Company's Cloud Service K5

Operational launch supports K5 business expansion by offering scalable and cost-optimized storage

SINGAPORE, May 18, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Veritas Technologies, a leader in multi-cloud data management, today announced that Fujitsu Limited (Minato-ku, Tokyo) has selected VeritasTM Access, a software-defined scale-out network-attached storage (NAS) solution, as the premier storage infrastructure for the Fujitsu Cloud Service K5. The implementation will allow Fujitsu to provide users with high-performance, cost-optimized storage services that are easy to manage and scale.

Fujitsu's reliance on traditional hardware storage, for K5's operational infrastructure, created challenges including a lack of flexibility, higher costs and difficulties in accommodating a variety of data transfer protocols on the same architecture. Fujitsu found that Veritas Access -- a software-defined storage (SDS) solution with numerous successful deployments -- fulfilled the rigorous prerequisites of deployment in Cloud Service K5.

Fujitsu selected Veritas Access due to the following key benefits:

  • Scale-out architecture that enables the cluster's hardware to be added or replaced without taking systems off-line: The use of Veritas' proprietary clustering and storage-management technology in Veritas Access scale-out NAS enables hardware to be added or replaced without the need for any system downtime. This fulfills a key requisite for always-on cloud infrastructure where it is critical to perform hardware maintenance and add or remove any hardware while the system is still in service.
  • Flexibility in supporting multiple protocols and the ability to seamlessly interface with different types of storage: Veritas Access accommodates data transfer via multiple protocols including NFS, SMB (CIFS), FTP, Amazon S3 APIs, enabling the cluster to be utilized for traditional and modern workloads. Veritas Access supports tiered capacity by service level as well as the ability to provision storage on demand, enabling optimal tiers of storage including HDDs, flash and cloud while simultaneously supporting a mix of direct-attached storage (DAS) and storage area network (SAN) implementations. This also enables Fujitsu to offer storage services closely aligned with users' requirements.
  • Control and efficiency: SDS is becoming a widely-accepted alternative to the traditional acquisition model. Veritas Access software provides Fujitsu with the agility, control and efficiency needed to meet rapidly changing requirements by dynamically optimizing infrastructure capabilities to the needs of the business.
  • Advanced technology with proven record of supporting global mission critical systems: K5 is a cloud service currently available in 6 countries globally.

Veritas Access -- an SDS approach to storage offering resilience and reliable performance

The need for modern SDS capabilities has never been more pressing as data growth and data storage costs continue to increase exponentially. According to the Veritas 2017 Data Genomics Index, enterprise data repositories have grown by nearly 50 percent (48.7 percent) annually, largely driven by the proliferation of new apps and emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT).

The soaring volumes of data fuels the need to address storage for transactional, analytical and archival workloads, which have different performance and capacity requirements. Veritas Access, as a scale-out NAS software, enables organizations to easily manage data regardless of where it resides -- on-premises, off-premises or in the cloud -- with resulting high performance, cost-effectiveness and scalability gains.

Moving forward, Veritas and Fujitsu will be working closely on additional multi-cloud data management capabilities for K5. For example, K5 users deploying Veritas NetBackupTM, a cloud-enabled data protection solution, will be able to back up their data to Veritas Access seamlessly by directing it to optimum storage tiers.

"Veritas offers a number of SDS products of which, Veritas Access, in particular, provides K5 users with exceptional benefits, including flexibility and opportunities to reduce cost," said Masahiro Ota, Head of Cloud Services Business Unit, Digital Services Business, Fujitsu Limited. "Notably, Veritas' numerous product deployments for enterprises across both Japan and globally, was an indispensable factor in Fujitsu's decision to deploy Veritas Access in K5. We look forward to expanding our partnership with Veritas, to offer data management services for multi-cloud platforms centered on K5."

"Veritas' strategic relationship with Fujitsu goes back more than two decades. As one of our global key partners, we are delighted that Fujitsu picked Veritas Access to support K5, a strong testimony of the unique value of our solution to help Fujitsu deliver benefits to their customers," said Mike Palmer, executive vice president and chief product officer, Veritas"At Veritas, we are focused on enabling organizations to effectively protect and manage their most important asset -- data. This partnership with Fujitsu to deliver data protection and data management services supports organizations with their requirements for data visibility, digital compliance and business continuity."
