SCHAFFHAUSEN, Switzerland, April 5, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Occlutech, a leading innovator of implants to treat structural heart disease, today announced that it has obtained European CE Mark approval for its Perimembranous Ventricular Septal Defect (PmVSD) Occluder. The device is a specifically designed implant indicated for the minimally invasive closure of perimembranous ventricular septal defects.

Perimembranous VSDs represent 70 - 80 % of all VSDs. Ventricular Septal Defects are the most common congenital cardiac abnormalities and they account for 30-60% of all congenital heart defects in newborns (about 2-6 VSDs per 1,000 births).
