The conference hosted industry and robotics research community experts from the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Israel, Japan, China and many other countries. The aim of the conference is to provide a platform for worldwide academia, industry and business stakeholders from different disciplines to share and exchange ideas on the trends of robotics. The 2-day conference focused on the future development of a sustainable ecosystem for robotics, and how robotics contributes to re-industrialisation. Day 2 of the conference featured simultaneous tracks which explored robotic applications in industrial automation, assistive products, home care, edutainment and medical use.

Robotics applications and even humanoids are part of our daily lives; be it in an office environment, industrial factory or home and leisure setting. As shared by Dr. Hauser, the use of robots in the real world is compliant with existing standards and best practices. However, robots are only part of a system and the system may not be compliant in terms of safety, security and reliability. Hence, it would be difficult for potential users to have the confidence to use them.

Established robotics technology and the emergence of Internet of Things (IoT)-based solutions drive the integration of robots into smart system installations across many sectors, such as industry, transport and healthcare. Although many pilot applications exist today, they are still under development and are not ready for implementation. Thus operators, owners and consumers are less likely to adopt such smart solutions while technology providers struggle to enhance and roll out these solutions into the markets due to factors like safety, security and reliability.

In light of digital transformation, TUV SUD has recently inaugurated its new Digital Service Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Singapore, making it the first operational centre of its kind to be established outside of TUV SUD's global headquarters in Germany. With a planned investment of over $40 million within the next three years and an expected strength of over 50 people, this CoE will support the Asia Pacific Region, specifically in providing solutions for new technologies involving predictive data analytics, industrial cyber security and functional safety for evolving smart market segments, such as smart infrastructure and Industry 4.0.
