BALI, Indonesia, Oct. 17, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- At Hyatt Regency Bali, 'care' plays a central role in everything it does. Showing care to their associates is as important as showing care to their guests. In line with Hyatt's purpose "We care for people so they can be their best", they built a sanctuary where our associates can take a break, socialize, and re-energize. The associates dining outlet, D'apur Jukung, is purposefully designed to be as cool and comfortable as guest restaurants, with its own Outlet Manager in charge and high quality cutleries, chinaware, and glassware.
The name originates from the word dapur which means "kitchen" while jukung refers to the traditional fishermen boat in Sanur, where the hotel is located. In line with the hotel's intention to marry Sanur's old charm with modern convenience, at D'apur Jukung, old and new seem to blend seamlessly. Vintage photos from Bali Hyatt adorn the wall opposite swings and graffiti. Shelves from reclaimed wood are stacked nicely next to a new ping pong table.
D'apur Jukung's designer Magali Darga Hamel took Sanur and ocean as her main inspirations. "I want to bring the soul and charm of Sanur into this venue. From the choice of colors, decoration, to the murals, every element links back to Sanur and its ocean. The colors are inspired by jukung boats - yellow, red, blue, and white," said Magali.
As the ocean is becoming more polluted, D'apur Jukung illustrates the importance of saving the environment. The all-blue mural depicts a journey of fishermen in a polluted ocean, while the art installation on the wall shows a mix of discarded items and new, cheaply made items. "You can't tell which is trash and which is new when you look at it, it makes us rethink the 'junk' we buy. I always feel that a waste is not a waste until it is wasted," mentioned Magali, a Sanur resident herself.
In line with the environmental theme, D'apur Jukung uses a lot of recycled materials. Teaming with local carpenter company Good Guys, Magali uses reclaimed wood for the ceiling decoration and multifunctional stacked shelves. "Mixing recycled materials with new gives D'apur Jukung a fresh, unique take of what a 'canteen' looks like," said Bulan Bharata, Public Relations Manager of Hyatt Regency Bali. "We want D'apur Jukung to be a place to recharge and reconnect, so we create a lounge section where our associates can play ping pong, relax on a bean bag, or simply sit on a swing," said Bulan.
D'apur Jukung is officially open from 17 September for associates. Collaborators who worked on this project include Brian Garcia (@tazroc) for Elevate mural, Ical (@calbons) for the Work Hard Stay Humble mural, Good Guys for wood decoration, and Magali Darga Hamel (@alamowgs) for design, concept and the fishermen mural with help of Rio Simatupang (@lampurio).
