Corning Celebrates 40th Anniversary of the Invention of Optical Fiber at China Communications Conference

Fiber inventor will be a keynote speaker at WOCC 2010

SHANGHAI, May 14 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- Corning Incorporated (NYSE: GLW) is celebrating the 40th anniversary of the invention of commercially viable optical fiber as part of its participation in the 19th Annual Wireless and Optical Communications Conference (WOCC 2010) and the 10th Annual OptiNet China (OptiNet China 2010). One of the actual inventors, retired Corning researcher, Dr. Donald Keck, will deliver a keynote address on the tremendous changes optical communications have brought to society since it's invention in the early 1970s.

The WOCC 2010 is being held in Zhangjiang, Shanghai from May 14th to 15th. As a leading industry conference, WOCC was created to strengthen business relationships between the Asian and North American wireless and optical communications industries. Professionals from China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, and the United States are participating to discuss technological advances and new developments in communications networks and information delivery.

Highlights of this year's conference include two Charles Kao sessions honoring Dr. Kao's contributions to optical fiber communication; with Alan Dowdell, president, Corning Greater China Telecommunications, hosting one of the two sessions. Dr. Kao received the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2009.

In addition Dr. Ming-Jun Li, an optical physicist and one of the inventors of Corning(R) ClearCurve(R) optical fiber, will deliver a keynote speech at the conference. Also, Dr. Mou-Tion Lee, vice president, Corning Greater China Telecom will present on "All-Optical Solutions for In-building Wireless Signal Distribution Systems."

Held from May 26 to May 27, OptiNet China 2010 is one of the most influential industrial conferences in China. Doug Harshbarger, vice president, Marketing and Strategy, Corning Greater China Telecom, will attend the conference as an honored guest. Also FTTH Manager, Corning Greater China Telecom, Bill Zhang will present innovative solutions from Corning at the FTTH forum.
