SHANGHAI, Oct. 31, 2011 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- SSOE Group (www.ssoe.com), an international engineering, procurement, and construction management (EPCM) firm, announced today that two of their construction management projects have reached significant safety milestones. SSOE, along with their client Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, has successfully reached seven million hours worked with no recordable incidents at Goodyear's newest tire plant in China. In addition, SSOE and General Motors (GM) recently celebrated 500,000 hours worked without a recordable accident during the construction of GM's first Chinese Automotive Research and Development (R&D) facility, otherwise known as GM China's Advanced Technical Center.

Goodyear's new tire plant, which currently produces passenger tires, and soon will produce truck tires, is the largest manufacturing project under construction in China. The nearly 3.2 billion RMB facility, located in Puladian, China, consists of multiple buildings situated on a 778,640 sq. meter site. SSOE is providing full engineering, procurement, and construction management (EPCM) services for the project which included site improvement services consisting of the transformation of 417,000 sq. meters of land and the construction of several buildings for manufacturing, utilities, and warehousing which total 236,000 sq. meters.

Andrew Kwok, General Manager of SSOE's Asia Operations, said this milestone is a noteworthy accomplishment. "Safety is an integral part of the cultural mindset at Goodyear and SSOE," Kwok said. "The achievement of this milestone is an indication of our commitment to work hard to protect the well-being of each person working on the site."

GM's new facility, currently being constructed in Shanghai, reached the safety milestone during construction of the Advanced Materials Laboratory Building, or Phase 1, which opened on September 21, 2011. The nearly 33,000 sq. meter facility sits on approximately 66,000 sq. meters of land and includes areas for advanced vehicle development, powertrain design, electrical and fuel cell design, chassis, HVAC, body, exterior and interior development, and telematics. SSOE's services include programming, conceptual design, master planning, detail design, and construction management. SSOE anticipates completion of Phase 2 construction to be in summer 2012.

President and Managing Director of the GM China Group, Kevin Wale, said during the celebratory safety speech "500,000 hours of work without an injury is a tremendous achievement. It is a tribute to all of you who are working hard day and night. I want to congratulate the SSOE construction team and contractors on-site for managing the success of this project and for working with GM to support our safety program."
