Avnet Electronics Marketing Asia Signs Memorandum of Understanding with the Beijing Government

 

Commitment in contributing to cloud computing in China by introducing server integration solutions

HONG KONG, Nov. 14, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Avnet Electronics Marketing Asia, a business region of Avnet, Inc. (NYSE: AVT), today has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Beijing Municipal Commission of Economy and Information Technology, to offer server integration solutions that support and drive the development of data center and cloud computing industry in China.

The MOU was finalized at a ceremony attended by Gou Zhongwen, Vice Mayor of the Beijing Municipal Government, Jin Wei, Chairman of the Beijing Municipal Commission of Economy and Information Technology, and Stephen Wong, President of Avnet Electronics Marketing Asia, Frederick Fu, Regional President of Avnet Electronics Marketing China and Chuck Kostalnick, Senior Vice President, Avnet Embedded, at the China National Convention Center on 14 November 2012.

In recent years, the Chinese government has been making significant investments in upgrading IT infrastructure, including data center and cloud computing technologies, to drive gross domestic product growth, with an emphasis on green and environmental friendliness. To support the initiative, Avnet Electronics Marketing Asia will establish an integration center in Beijing to provide integration services and build high-performance customized servers for data centers as well as customers in China. Beijing will be the first city where Avnet Electronics Marketing is expanding into this business offering in Asia.

The MOU demonstrates the commitment and dedication from the Beijing government as well as Avnet Electronics Marketing Asia in developing the cloud computing industry. Avnet has been providing turnkey solutions and component design-chain to supply-chain service to its strong customer base in the region. With this new business development, Avnet will be able to offer customers tailored server integration solutions that allow for much greater flexibility and optimization to answer diversified needs, covering markets such as data centers, cloud computing, wireless internet, security, surveillance, education, health and medical industries.
