GUANGZHOU, China, Feb. 25, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- U.S. Ambassador to China Gary Locke arrived in Guangzhou on 21st to preside over the dedication ceremonies of the first AmCham Tower in the world. The tower houses the eponymous American Chamber of Commerce in South China's National Headquarters and Conference Center, which are the largest of any American Chamber of Commerce in the world.
The premises, located in Guangzhou’s Pazhou district, include a state-of-the-art auditorium which seats 160 as well as separate conference rooms fully equipped with latest telecommunications and interactive technology.
"This AmCham Tower symbolizes the substance and vitality of the U.S.-China trade relationship," said AmCham South China President Harley Seyedin. "The past 30 years have proven how much both nations benefit from a relationship based on openness and fair competition, and I see this Tower as one more monument to those ideals."
In addition to Ambassador Locke, the event's guests included Consuls General from Guangzhou’s diplomatic community; representatives from the Chinese government and senior executives from AmCham South China’s member companies.
This year numbering more than 2,000, the chamber’s members are estimated to account for nearly 40 percent of all U.S.-China trade and investment.
Following the ceremony, Ambassador Locke joined AmCham South China’s Board of Governors on a visit to the Guangzhou Women and Children’s Medical Center, the beneficiary of AmCham South China’s charity fundraising efforts over the past two years. The RMB 2,392,000 raised thus far is being used to finance life-saving operations for orphaned children in the center.
