"What's at the heart of these amazing machines is the diesel engine and its importance in meeting the demands of both established and developing economies around the world," said Allen Schaeffer, the Executive Director of the Diesel Technology Forum.

"Today, clean diesel power has met the challenge of  near-zero emissions requirements under U.S. EPA Tier 4 final and Stage IV European Union (EU) standards, while using  less fuel and generating fewer CO2 emissions.  Innovation in emissions control, engine management and advanced fuel injection and turbocharging technologies has enabled these accomplishments.  Further innovative strategies include hybridization to achieve new levels of fuel savings; and expanded potential for using renewable biodiesel fuels.
