Advanced Micro-Fabrication Equipment Inc. Strengthens Global Executive Team

SAN FRANCISCO and SHANGHAI, September 19, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, Advanced Micro-Fabrication Equipment Inc. (AMEC) strengthened its global executive team by appointing Pat Walsh as Vice President and General Manager, US Region. A veteran of Applied Materials, Lam Research and other semiconductor equipment companies, Walsh will drive continued penetration of the US market for AMEC's advanced etch tools. Reporting to CEO Gerald Yin, he'll also start building out the Asia-based company's local service infrastructure to support US customers.

Walsh spent nearly 15 years at Applied Materials - six years as General Manager of several key US global accounts. His efforts helped increase sales, boost customer satisfaction and secure several Top Supplier awards. At Lam Research, he was Senior Director of Sales, tasked with growing the service-related products business in North America. While there he increased revenue and profitability by shaping new service models and negotiating contracts with top US chip firms. Before AMEC, he held executive positions at other US semiconductor equipment-related firms and helped expand their business into Singapore, Taiwan, China, Korea and Russia.

"We're pleased to welcome Pat to AMEC," said CEO Yin. "His technical expertise and record of managing tier-one customer accounts will help us grow our US business. The US remains the world's IC design innovation hub - especially for consumer mobile ICs, and while Asia dominates on the manufacturing side, there's substantial opportunity in the US for our high-productivity processing solutions. Pat will direct the effort to exploit the potential in this market."

Walsh said: "I'm excited to drive AMEC's US market activities. Early customer feedback is encouraging and confirms there's room for a new provider with a solutions mindset and the flexibility to move fast. We're already seeing openings for inventive collaborations where our technology can offer unique value. It helps that our etchers are already entrenched in leading Asian fabs and delivering on our productivity and cost-of-ownership promises. I'm looking forward to finding a fit for them here."

Walsh began his career as a process engineer with UTMC Mostek, moving from there to develop plasma processes for GaAs pilot lines at TRW. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois, Urbana.
