AmCham-China Statement on Ambassador Locke's Inaugural Economic Speech

BEIJING, September 20, 2011 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- The American Chamber of Commerce in the People's Republic of China (AmCham-China) applauds Ambassador Gary Locke's speech today. It reflects his commitment to promoting a better business environment on both sides of the Pacific, including improved market access for US companies in China, continued growth in US exports to China, and encouragement for Chinese direct investment in the US. We strongly support these priorities.

Better market access for US companies will assist China in meeting the goals of the 12th Five Year Plan by promoting efficiency and accelerating market reform. Growth in US exports is the best way to bring bilateral trade into better balance so that it can be sustained over the long term. Chinese investment in the US will strengthen the economic foundation of the bilateral relationship, deepen the understanding in China of the US market and regulatory environment, and strengthen the American economy.

We look forward to working closely with the new Ambassador to realize the priorities outlined in his speech.
