Cedrus Investments Announces it is Making China its Top Priority

Stanford Professor and Cedrus' Chief Emerging Technology Advisor, Dr. Thomas W. Kenny, will focus on identifying and evaluating unique investment opportunities for Cedrus' Clients

SHANGHAI, Jan. 12, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Cedrus Investments ("Cedrus"), a global boutique investment firm specializing in Investment Management and Financial Advisory Services, has announced that Dr. Thomas W. Kenny, its Chief Emerging Technology Advisor, will now focus his work on the China market.  Specifically, Dr. Kenny will work directly with Cedrus' team in Shanghai to identify promising technologies and companies in Cedrus' sectors of expertise, including life sciences, energy, natural resources, technology and clean technology.  Dr. Kenny is the Richard Weiland Professor of Mechanical Engineering and the Senior Associate Dean of the Department of Mechanical Engineering for Student Affairs at Stanford University and an internationally renowned nanotechnology and micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS) expert.

Dr. Kenny previously worked for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), Cooligy, SiTime, DARPA and Applaud Medical.  At NASA, Dr. Kenny served as Technical Group Leader at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, where he pioneered the development of MEMS sensors and instruments for miniature spacecraft.  Dr. Kenny was the co-founder and Chief Technical Officer at Cooligy, a venture-backed startup manufacturing cooling technology for computers, servers, and other compact electronic systems that was acquired by Emerson in 2005.  From 2004 to 2014, Kenny was a member of the Board of Directors and the Technical Advisory Board for SiTime, a developer of MEMS-based timing products, which he co-founded and was acquired by Megachips in 2014.  Dr. Kenny is the co-founder and currently the Board Member of Applaud Medical, a venture-backed startup developing non-invasive therapies for kidney stones based on micro bubble targeting of unfocused ultrasound.  He recently served as General Chairman of the 18th International Conference on Solid State Sensors, Actuators and Microsystems, which included technical sessions ranging from automotive sensors and consumer electronics applications to biomedical device technologies and applications.  Since 1994, he has been a faculty member of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Stanford University, where he has authored or coauthored over 250 scientific papers, and he is a holder of 50 issued patents, and has been the primary Ph.D. advisor for more than 50 Stanford Ph.D. students.  His research covers materials, technologies and applications of micro and nanofabrication, ranging from inertial sensing to biomedical applications.

Dr. Kenny earned a B.S. in Physics from the University of Minnesota and a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of California at Berkeley.
