Goldwind GW93/1500 Ultra-Low Wind Speed Turbine Obtains CGC Accreditation Certificate

Pursues development of higher efficiency wind turbines with enhanced product quality and safety

HONG KONG, Oct. 10, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Xinjiang Goldwind Science & Technology Co., Ltd. ("Goldwind" or the "Group"; SZ stock code: 002202; HK stock code: 2208), a world-leading wind turbine manufacturer and a provider of comprehensive wind power solutions, today announced that its ultra-low wind speed series GW93/1500 Permanent Magnet Direct-Drive (PMDD) turbine was awarded an accreditation certificate by the China General Certification Center (CGC), the mainland's leading accreditation institution. Which further affirms GW93/1500 now meets the domestic wind industry accreditation and national safety standard requirements.

The GW93/1500 ultra-low wind speed PMDD turbine has a 93-meter rotor diameter with a rated capacity of 1500kW. It is designed for IEC Class S wind resource areas where the annual average wind speed is lower than 6.5 m/s. This wind turbine boasts the industry's largest rotor diameter along with the highest power generation efficiency plus lower cost of energy compared to other same rated capacity turbine models in China. The GW93/1500 series can generate more than 2,000 standard hours of power per year based on an annual average wind speed of 5.5 m/s (assuming a standard air density and Rayleigh distribution).

During the first half of this year, the Group installed a prototype of this turbine in Zhucheng, Shandong province. Based on operational field data, the turbine met all the design requirements and was more efficient than expected especially under ultra-low wind speed conditions. The turbine performed with an average availability rate of over 98.5%. According to the latest test figures, with wind speed of 5.5 m/s, the GW93/1500 series can produce 8.97% more power on average than GW87/1500 series turbines (designed for IEC III class) under the same conditions.

Goldwind's GW93/1500 PMDD turbines use a permanent magnet generator and full-power converter with grid friendly characteristics. These units not only comply fully with all accreditation requirements and national safety standards but also national grid connection requirements while achieving zero voltage ride-through standards.

Ultra-low wind speed areas have annual average speeds of 5.5 m/s to 6.5 m/s. As wind power technology improves, low wind speed and ultra-low wind speed areas have greater potential for successful utilisation. There are also many ultra-low wind speed areas in close proximity to urban centers with strong power demand and grid capacity.

Goldwind seeks to maximise value for its customers. Leveraging its strong global R&D platform and innovative technologies, the Group has developed various customised wind turbine series to accommodate diverse operating environments. In addition to the ultra-low wind speed series, Goldwind also offers low wind speed, high altitude, low temperature, high temperature, offshore and intertidal PMDD series models. The Group has used these specialised turbine units in several overseas projects, including a high altitude project in Ecuador, a low wind speed project each in Chile and Thailand, a high temperature project in Pakistan and a low temperature project in Minnesota, USA.

Customers from around the world have come to recognise and appreciate many advantages associated with Goldwind's PMDD wind turbines. These include low maintenance requirements, strong low voltage ride-through capability, high availability rates, and high power generation efficiency.
