As an airline based in Hong Kong, while promoting the development of the local aviation industry, Hong Kong Airlines is committed to nurturing local aviation talents and supporting the younger generation to achieve the dream of flying high. To achieve this goal, the airline launched the first "Embrace the World" Student Sponsorship Programme in 2014, offering students with outstanding performance in academic or other aspects a free ride with Hong Kong Airlines to travel the world and broaden their horizons.

Benefiting nearly 50 schools and over 800 students

"Embrace the World" Student Sponsorship Programme awards primary and secondary students with outstanding performance in academic or other aspects with complimentary air tickets. Since its inauguration just six months ago, the programme has received applications from close to 50 primary and secondary schools, and over 800 students were offered complimentary air tickets, providing them an opportunity to fly high and embrace the world, so as to explore their potentials.

Mr. Ben Wong Ching Ho, Chief Operating Officer of Hong Kong Airlines said, "Riding on this sponsorship programme, Hong Kong Airlines aims to enrich students' travel experience, allowing them to experience the diverse cultures of places around the world, so as to strengthen their independent thinking and self-care ability, as well as to explore their potentials in different areas. Through the award ceremony today, we hope to further promote the programme to attract more applications and participation from primary and secondary schools, so that more young people can be benefited." Mr. Wong added that Hong Kong Airlines will devote more resources to cooperate with local schools in future, organising more programmes in which the academia and students can be benefited.

Mr. Eddie Ng Hak-kim, SBS, JP, Secretary of Education, thanks Hong Kong Airlines for offering such a good learning opportunity to Hong Kong students. He shared three important keys to success with students at the ceremony, "I encourage students to get well prepared, be grateful and introspective. Treasure every opportunity and fly high with Hong Kong."

Mr. Yau Shing-mu, JP, Under Secretary for Transport and Housing said at the ceremony, "I am so glad to be here today to share the happiness with all the students who have participated in the 'Embrace the World' Student Sponsorship Programme. It is appreciated that Hong Kong Airlines launched this programme in October last year which encourages students to enrich their knowledge by traveling aboard. They can observe and experience different cultures, learn and care about the world." Mr. Yau believed students can enjoy the fun of flying by joining the programme.

Hon Frankie Yick Chi-ming, Member of the Legislative Council (Transport) said at the ceremony, "I am glad that Hong Kong Airlines is willing to invest these many resources to support the all-round development of the Hong Kong education system and students, and these efforts were not made out of financial return. Young people are the future of our society. Being able to cultivate independence at a young age and broaden their horizons can definitely help them prepare better for the future. Hong Kong Airlines "Embrace the World" Sponsorship Programme is the perfect opportunity for students to go beyond their classrooms and expand their international visions." As an old saying goes, "it is better to travel ten thousand miles than to read ten thousand books". Mr. Yick encouraged the prize-winning students to treasure this opportunity to learn more about the world so as to equip themselves for future successes.

Unlike other similar programmes, "Embrace the World" Student Sponsorship Programme is free of charge. The programme is open to students from primary, secondary and special schools. Every participating school can establish their own selection mechanism and the programme is not limited to students with exceptional academic performance, but also extends to students with special skills, excellent conduct, or outstanding performance in extracurricular activities. Studends winning the award can select their preferred destination and time of travel, allowing them to plan and enjoy their trip and explore the world according to their learning objectives.
