PARIS, 15 June /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- Reed MIDEM today announces that Nobel Prize winner Joseph Stiglitz will present a keynote address during MIPIM Asia 2010, Hong Kong, November 10-12.

The recipient of the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences in 2001 and former Senior Vice President of the World Bank, will share his thoughts on Global Economics with a focus on Asia Pacific and the Real Estate Industry with delegates attending the leading international property tradeshow and conference in Asia Pacific.

"We are delighted that Joseph Stiglitz has accepted our invitation to address MIPIM Asia 2010," says Reed MIDEM Chief Executive Paul Zilk. "His knowledge of global economics and insight into real estate in the Asia Pacific region will make his participation a highlight of MIPIM Asia. We are committed to providing delegates with access to leading international thinkers who can provide a greater understanding of the marketplace, particularly in these interesting economic times. The presence of a Nobel Prize winner at MIPIM Asia demonstrates this commitment."

"This is an extraordinarily exciting time for this meeting. While Europe and America remained mired in an economic slowdown, Asia has become the dynamic powerhouse of the global economy. But the mismanagement of Western economies is presenting challenges for Asia: exports, the basis for much of Asia's growth for decades, are likely to be limited, and the free flow of liquidity risks creating bubbles, including in the real estate sector. Failure to manage that sector well in the United States brought the world to the brink of ruin. It is essential to ensure the continued growth and stability of this vital sector in Asia. I look forward to exchanging views with leading real estate executives and policymakers during MIPIM Asia 2010 on how this might best be accomplished" comments Joseph Stiglitz.

Joseph Eugene Stiglitz received his doctorate in MIT in 1967 and became Professor at Yale in 1970. In 1979 the American Economic Association honoured him with the John Bates Clark Award recognising him as the most outstanding economist aged less than 40.

He was a member of the economic advisory committee to the Clinton Administration from 1993 to 1995. In 1997, he assumed the position of Chief of Economics and Vice President of the World Bank, a post which he held until 2000. He was awarded with the Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences in 2001.

As a New-Keynesian economist, Joseph Stiglitz is known for his critical view of the management of globalization, free-market economists and some international institutions like the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank. Among his works, Globalization and Its Discontents, published in 2002, and Making Globalization Work, published in 2006, have received international recognition.
