FUZHOU and SHANGHAI, Nov. 25, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Chinese oil and gas giant, Sinopec SenMei (Fujian) Petroleum Company Limited (Sinopec SenMei) is the latest to source GMAP Shanghai expertise for gas station network planning in China. Upon a successful pilot study earlier this year in Fuzhou, GMAP will continue market studies within the Fujian province, targeting the coastal city of Quanzhou next.

Sinopec SenMei is a joint venture of Sinopec, ExxonMobil China Petroleum & Petrochemical Company Limited and Saudi Aramco Sino Company Limited. As the first provincial level processed oil marketing joint venture in China, the company is mainly engaged in the wholesale, retail, storage, throughput and transport of the processed oil, lubricant and other petroleum products, including the operation of more than 1000 service stations.

GMAP began analysis in Fuzhou by surveying more than 300 fuel sites within the study area. Taking more than 20 relevant data factors into analysis, including demographics and location, GMAP calibrated a market model which assessed the impact on sales of geography, facilities, and branding. The result has enabled Sinopec SenMei to evaluate future petrol locations with a more scientific approach.

Luke Whittam, GMAP's Asia Pacific Director commented, "Quanzhou is the fastest growing city in Fujian province in terms of economy, and is a much more complex market than Fuzhou in the sense that there are more suppliers, the structure of ownership is more complicated, and the city is more geographical dispersed. While this may be a challenge, we are confident that we can deliver the necessary level of data and insight required."

GMAP has been the global supplier of best practice network planning tools to shareholder ExxonMobil for more than 15 years, conducting market analysis throughout Asia, Europe and North America. Our leading market models support the development of the optimal network of service stations, helping clients to understand where untapped potential exists and forecast the impacts of potential changes to the network.
