Year-to-date Sales of Smartphones & Other Smart Devices Up Six-Fold YoY
Partners Baidu to Launch Cloud Platform Handset
HONG KONG, Sept. 6 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- TCL Communication Technology Holdings Limited ("TCL Communication" or the "Company", together with its subsidiaries referred to as the "Group"; HKSE stock code: 02618) today announced the unaudited shipment figures for its handsets and other products for August 2012.
In August 2012, sales of the Group's handsets and other products totaled 3,634,042 units, a year-on-year increase of 1%. Sales of smartphones and other smart devices totaled 644,460 units, up 348% year-on-year, and sales of smartphones and other smart devices reached 18% of total shipment. Meanwhile, 515,535 units were sold in the PRC, and 3,118,507 units were sold in overseas markets. The year-to-date sales of handsets and other products reached 25,200,776 units over the first eight months of 2012, a decrease of 6% compared with last year. Of these, 3,823,718 units were sold in the PRC market, a year-on-year increase of 54%; and 21,377,058 units were sold overseas. The year-to-date sales of smartphones and other smart devices reached 3,417,253 units, marking a year-on-year increase of 650%.
TCL Communication is partnering Baidu to launch the customized smartphone S710 this September. Wholly focused on the user experience, the S710 offers seamless integration of cloud applications and file-sharing, aggregating a number of popular services such as voice search, cloud storage, music, maps, mobile browser and system security. This creates a comprehensive cloud services portal for mobile internet cloud users. The Group also launched its latest dual SIM smartphone "The Little Shark, TCL S600" in Chengdu, Sichuan over two days in August, which features the Aridion™ liquid-repellent nano-coating technology. The Group simultaneously launched TCL S600 at seven other sales locations in Sichuan to augment the promotional campaign, achieving remarkable results: all TCL S600 units were sold out on the same day. Following the success of the TCL S600, the Group also launched "The Big Shark" TCL S800 nationwide. The TCL S800 features a 4.3-inches screen, 1GHz dual-core A9 processors, Android 4.0-ICS operating system, a built-in smartphone voice assistant and an 8 million pixel rear camera, enabling the new product to stand out among fierce competition. The Group is confident that these two handsets will continue to be well-received by the market.
In July, the Group participated in the Eletrolar Show, which is the largest trade fair of electrical appliances and electronics in Brazil, and hauled in HK$ 9 billion in revenues for more than 1000 exhibitors. The Group showcased around 20 new ALCATEL ONE TOUCH-branded products at the exhibition. Under our display's theme of "The Trend is Me", the Group unveiled new ALCATEL ONE TOUCH products featuring unique designs and images aimed at the middle-class and blue collar markets. The display also captured the spirit of the appeal of ALCATEL ONE TOUCH to its partners and users. Through its participation in the trade show, the Group received positive market feedback and reinforced the simple yet smart brand image of "ALCATEL ONE TOUCH", which helped to further expand the distribution network in Brazil. In addition, the Group enlisted the famous London R&B girl band 'Stooshe' to launch a new handset application allowing their fans to follow their movements at any time, and to win the latest ALCATEL ONE TOUCH handset in a lucky draw.
