HONG KONG, July 8, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- TCL Communication Technology Holdings Limited ("TCL Communication" or the "Company" which, together with its subsidiaries and its affiliates, is referred to as the "Group"; HKSE stock code: 02618) today announced the unaudited figures for shipments of handsets and other products in June and the first six months of 2015.
The Group's total sales volume of handsets and other products increased by 42% year-on-year to 7,771,000 units in June 2015. Sales volume of handsets and other products in overseas markets increased by 41% year-on-year to 6,896,000 units, while shipments in China market totalled 875,000 units, up by 46% year-on-year. Sales volume of smart devices increased by 21% year-on-year to 3,856,000 units, and accounted for 50% of the Group's total shipments for the month. For the first six months of 2015, the cumulative sales volume of handsets and other products amounted to 34,835,000 units, representing an increase of 16% year-on-year, while the cumulative sales volume of smart devices reached 20,880,000 units, representing a 39% year-on-year growth.
By end of June, China Unicom and Telefonica jointly announced a strategic 4G smartphone procurement collaboration program, whereby they will acquire a selection of cost-effective smartphones from TCL Communication. Thanks to the unparalleled combined scale and global footprint of China Unicom and Telefonica, this procurement project will help expand TCL Communication's reach into the highly attractive global mobile markets.
Furthermore, TCL Communication participated in The 3rd China-South Asia Expo and 23rd China Kunming Import and Export Commodities Fair in Kunming and showcased a variety of knockout products, including the super long battery life mobile handset "TCL life+" and the cost-effective 4G mobile handset TCL P588L. At this event, the Company received the unwavering support of national leaders and strong international media attention, setting the stage for its future expansion in South Asia and Southeast Asian market.
In the overseas market, the Group announced earlier to set up a regional head office in Dubai to focus on the Middle East and Africa market. As well, the Group's flagship product IDOL 3 under its ALCATEL ONETOUCH brand was officially launched in the United Arab Emirates ("UAE") market at its large-scale product presentation, and has received encouraging response. In addition, ALCATEL ONETOUCH announced as the official smartphone partner of Toronto FC in June. The partnership will include a focus on pre-game fan experiences, in-game engagement, in-game brand advertising and in-market promotions. It is expected the partnership will further enhance ALCATEL ONETOUCH's brand awareness in Canada, as it strives to be one of the top smartphone brands in the market.
