LONDON, Nov. 6, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Sustainable mobility brings not only environmental but also social and economic benefits – and will be one of the main topics of Michelin's upcoming Challenge Bibendum event in Chengdu, China. Through its theme 'Innovation in mobility at the heart of growth and urban well-being', this edition will address major challenges facing the world of transportation, and present game changing solutions capable of mitigating these challenges. The event takes place at a time when China is facing enormous growth issues arising from increasing mobility, namely pollution and congestion. A series of workshops will consider how to alleviate these externalities in China going forward.

Frost & Sullivan is a historic knowledge partner of the Challenge Bibendum, having been already present at the Rio (2010) and Berlin (2011) editions.

As part of this event, Frost & Sullivan will be hosting an interactive workshop that focuses on exactly this, highlighting the mega trends impacting the car of the future, on Wednesday, November 12th, 2014 at 10 am UTC. Senior Partner and Visionary Innovation Group leader Sarwant Singh will deliver a thought leadership overview of the future of mobility, drawing on best practices from recognised global mobility experts, and identifying the most applicable and scalable opportunities for the global automotive industry. This will be followed by a panel discussion with senior executives from IBM, Daimler, and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development.

"The future of the car today is strongly being influenced by converging Mega Trends, most notably connectivity, infotainment and smart solutions, new business models, social demographic changes, and technological advancements," notes Mr Singh. "This is leading to a new wave of mobility business models as well as product and technical improvements in the car. Digitisation is revolutionising vehicle retailing and a growing number of integrated platforms are emerging for corporate mobility."

"Vehicle manufacturers are creating models developed specifically for women, as their buying power increases and more women apply for licences at a faster rate than men in major developed nations," Mr Singh states. Increasingly, the provision of fully autonomous vehicles is becoming more of a reality, posing questions of ownership of vehicles, access models, and liability. All of this presents both opportunities in terms of business, and also challenges in terms of strategic decision making, and the potential externalities that could accrue such as congestion and pollution, if urban mobility is left unchecked. This is particularly prevalent in China, with growing urbanisation, and a desire to not replicate the emerging gridlock experienced in developed eastern Chinese mega-cities of Beijing and Shanghai. These are some of the topics set to be discussed at Frost & Sullivan's Mega Trends workshop.

Launched by Michelin in 1998 with some of its stakeholders and dedicated to promoting modern, sustainable multimodal mobility, the Challenge Bibendum event has gained worldwide recognition. Today it benefits from the support of numerous international organizations, industry and public authorities, and is the only event of its kind combining high level debates, expert seminars and a full array of hands-on demonstrations.

The Chengdu event will be organized under the high patronage of the Science and Technology Minister Wan Gang. Research & Development, automotive, transport, energy, environment, IT, and economics stakeholders will be present at this high-level convention as well as CEOs and government members, which could help shape the innovative initiatives required by the mobility sector. Five thousand professionals from all continents as well as personnel from major private groups, administrations and academic institutions are expected to attend the event.

Frost & Sullivan will be represented by the leaders of its Automotive & Transportation and mobility team. Mobility capabilities sit at the heart of the Automotive & Transportation practice at Frost & Sullivan and are critical in supporting economic growth through the efficient movement of people and goods. Frost & Sullivan's team of experts identify the opportunities and challenges this brings, as a result of converging Mega Trends, technology led solutions, and regulatory changes, and will be available for meetings during the convention.
