SHANGHAI, March 10 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- The exhibition Swedish Fashion -- Exploring a New Identity showcases a new wave of fashion designers from Sweden. This generation, which debuted around the start of the new millennium, is characterized by an individualistic and artistic approach to fashion. Created by the Swedish Institute and specially enhanced for Shanghai, the exhibition highlights the bold, the avant-garde and the surprising.
-- By finding their inspiration from a wide range of sources, the
designers are redefining the face and concept of Swedish fashion.
Swedish brands like H&M are huge commercial successes, but we wanted to
show a side to Swedish fashion which is characterized by a more
independent, conceptual and critical approach, says the curator Maria
Ben Saad.
In addition to the exhibition, five innovative fashion videos will be featured. The videos, made by Swedish high-profile film makers, investigate the intersection between fashion, film and art, and have never been shown together before.
Having been on show at major venues in Moscow, London and Tokyo, Swedish Fashion -- Exploring a New Identity will be on view at the River South Art Center in Shanghai from April 9 to May 13, before going to Beijing.
The exhibition features the following designers: Ann-Sofie Back (who is also showing at Shanghai Fashion Week April 10), Sandra Backlund, Martin Bergstrom, Blank, Burfitt, Fifth Avenue Shoe Repair, Helena Horstedt, Rickard Lindqvist, The Local Firm, Nakkna, Diana Orving, Rodebjer, Goran Sundberg.
Furthermore, fashion will play a major role at Sweden's national Expo event at the European Square on May 23, where the Shanghai based choreographer Jin Xing will choreograph a unique fashion performance with outfits from Swedish fashion designers.
