New award category is specially opened for Mainland China, Taiwan and Macau

HONG KONG, June 18, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --Chaired by the Building Division of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers, the Organizing Committee of Quality Building Award 2014 (QBA 2014) proudly announced the official commencement of its award nomination period. Nomination begins today on 18th June 2013 (Tuesday), and will last until 1st November 2013 (Friday) at 12 noon. Jointly-organized by nine building and construction related institutes and associations, the Award had reached to its 7th episode. This biennial Award had earned a respectful recognition in both Hong Kong and overseas building industry. This year, the Organizing Committee had opened a new category specifically for buildings in Mainland China, Taiwan and Macau. With the theme "Collaboration for Quality", QBA 2014 could be the platform to showcase outstanding projects from various regions.

Ir Alkin Kwong, JP, Chairman of QBA 2014 Organizing Committee, said, "I'm honored to have the opportunity to chair the 7th episode of QBA. I hope the Organizing Committee could continue QBA's recognizable acknowledgement in the building industry not only in Hong Kong but worldwide. It is a new experience to differentiate Building Outside Hong Kong into two categories -- regions in Mainland China, Taiwan and Macau and regions outside Mainland China, Taiwan and Macau. In this way, we are expecting to receive more prominent building projects from various regions, and utilize QBA as a fair and equitable media to showcase their projects."

The six award categories of QBA 2014, which is applicable for nominations, include:

CATEGORIES  NOMINATION REQUIREMENTS 
1) Hong Kong Residential
(Single Building)
- Nominated new building must be a single independent structure not part of a complex containing other buildings.
- Major Function of the nominated building must be for residential use.
2) Hong Kong Residential
(Multiple Buildings)
- Nominated new buildings must be a group of buildings of similar kinds, which form a residential complex.
- Major Function of the nominated multiple buildings must be for residential use.
3) Hong Kong Non-Residential
(New Building)
- Major Function of the nominated new building must be for non-residential use or include non-residential use.
4) Hong Kong Building (Renovation / Revitalization) - Nominated existing building must have undergone and completed a renovation, restoration, revitalization or similar process to its physical structure and/or communal facilities.
- Nominated existing building could be for residential or non-residential use.
5) Building Outside Hong Kong
(Mainland China, Taiwan & Macau)
- Nomination must be within the Cross-strait Region, including Mainland China, Taiwan and Macau.
- Nominated building(s) could be for residential or non-residential use.
6) Building Outside Hong Kong (Regions outside Mainland China, Taiwan & Macau) - Nomination must be outside the territorial limits of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and the Cross-strait Region, including Mainland China, Taiwan and Macau.
- Nominated building(s) could be for residential or non-residential use.

* Nominated buildings should be practically completed in the period between 1 January 2010 and 30 June 2013, supported by the document certified by client on completion.

Classes of awards upon selection by Jury Panel:

AWARD TYPE  DESCRIPTION 
Quality Excellence Award  One Quality Excellence Award will be presented to one project within the territorial limits of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region with outstanding overall quality and best among all the nominations.
Quality Building Awards  There will be one Quality Building Award Winner for each nomination category.
Merits  There will be recognition of merit(s) for each nomination category.

** Quality Excellence Award is only to be selected by Jury Panel among finalists who have entered final stage of jury process.

Found in 2001 by nine building and construction related institutes and associations in Hong Kong, the Quality Building Award is a biennial award giving public recognition to buildings of outstanding quality that demonstrate outstanding teamwork.
