Delivering time-to-market advantages, highly efficient and programmable step-down power modules save space compared to discrete solutions
SINGAPORE, May 20, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- RS Components (RS), the trading brand of Electrocomponents plc (LSE: ECM), the world's leading high service distributor of electronics and maintenance products, has announced exclusive availability of a new series of innovative PCB-mount variable step-down regulator module ICs from Wurth Elektronik. The award-winning MagI3C-VDRM modules comprise a fully integrated and low-EMI-noise current-mode DC/DC power supply that includes the switching power stage, passive components and control circuitry in a single low-profile and small-outline package, saving valuable design-in time for engineers and reducing time-to-market.
Providing high efficiencies and accurate regulated output voltage, the series offers a wide input voltage range from 6 to 42V DC, output voltages from 0.8 to 24V, and maximum output currents from 1 to 5A, as well as built-in compensation circuitry and soft-start functionality for smooth and safe power up. Delivering stable and low-ripple voltages for components such as microprocessors, DSPs, FPGAs and MCUs and I/O interface applications, typical uses for the MagI3C-VDRM series are Point of Load (POL) DC/DC conversion in system power supplies and in server and datacom/telecom applications, as well as in industrial control, measurement equipment and entertainment equipment markets.
Three devices in the variable-output MagI3C-VDRM series cover 5 to 24V output voltages and respective output currents of 1, 1.5 and 3A; and two more offer 0.8 to 6.0V output voltages with respective output currents of 2 and 5A. In addition to programmable soft-start, variable settings available include output voltage, switching frequency, stand-by mode and adjustable UVLO (under-voltage lockout) protection. The regulators also have on-board circuitry to guard against thermal and electrical damage, including over-temperature, over-current and over-voltage protection, as well as output short-circuit functionality.
Suitable for either hand or machine soldering, the ICs come in an innovative 7-pin TO263-7-EP (Exposed Pad) industrial high-power-density package. The package offers a single exposed power ground (PGND) pad for excellent heat dissipation and best-in-class thermal performance. In addition, the device's shielded inductor means low noise characteristics that comply with EN55022 Class B standards, meaning a significantly reduced time required for EMI testing. Offering a wide operating temperature range of -40 to +125 degrees Celsius (junction to ambient), the series is also RoHS and REACH compliant.
The MagI3C-VDRM voltage step-down regulator modules are available to purchase direct from RS stock worldwide.
