LYNNFIELD, Mass., March 3 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- HP Hood, America's second largest low acid fluid processor, announced plans to install aseptic processing and filling capacity at its Sacramento, California plant. Hood's present aseptic capacity at its Winchester, Virginia facility is almost fully committed.

"Installing uncommitted new capacity in the west puts us back into the market promptly and will give us the capability to serve all continental markets as well as the Pacific Rim with this latest investment," said Jim Walsh, executive vice president of sales.

The new filler will be very similar to the Winchester filler which packs a variety of plastic bottle sizes at the rate of 600 per minute. It will be supplied by the same manufacturer, Shibuya Kogyo of Kanazawa, Japan and Shibuya Hoppman of Elkwood, Virginia. Hood processes dairy and other low-acid fluid products for its own brands and as a contract processor/packer for others in aseptic, extended-shelf-life and conventional modes.
