HONG KONG, June 5, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- TCL Communication Technology Holdings Limited ("TCL Communication" or the "Company" which, together with its subsidiaries and its affiliates, is referred to as the "Group"; HKSE stock code: 02618) today announced the unaudited figures for shipments of handsets and other products in May and the first five months of 2015.
The Group's total sales volume of handsets and other products amounted to 5,508,000 units in May 2015, while sales volume of handsets and other products in overseas and China markets totalled 4,737,000 units and 771,000 units respectively. Sales volume of smart devices increased by 23% year-on-year to 3,687,000 units, and accounted for 67% of the Group's total shipments for the month. For the first five months of 2015, the cumulative sales volume of handsets and other products amounted to 27,064,000 units, representing an increase of 11% year-on-year, while the cumulative sales volume of smart devices reached 17,023,000 units, representing a 44% year-on-year growth.
On 12 May, TCL Communication announced that it had partnered with China Telecom and MediaTek to introduce the first generation of a cost-effective 4G mobile handset, TCL P588L at the new product presentation in Beijing under the theme "Young Generation, Play Together". This new product will go on sale through websites such as shop.tcl.com, www.189.cn, 189.tmall.com and tydxsj.tmall.com, and is targeted towards the younger generation with official retail price of RMB599 at shop.tcl.com. The launch of TCL P588L shows the strenghtening of the Group's cooperative relationship with China Telecom has reached brand new heights, as well, is expected to further increase the market shares and awareness of the TCL brand in the domestic mobile handset market.
Furthermore, on 21 May, the Group hosted the "Love is Now" TCL Momoda brand launch conference in Beijing. Shenzhen Momoda Internet Communication Company Limited, a joint venture between TCL Corporation Holdings Limited and TCL Communication, officially announced the establishment of China's first product design workshop to be centered on user needs "M-Lab" (Momoda Laboratory), as well as the launch of TCL Momoda's first smart lifestyle product: the full Netcom 4G handset Momoda 3S with 7 modes and 18 frequencies. In addition to encompassing all current major mobile functions, Momoda 3S is equipped with hi-tech eyeprint recognisation technology and will be sold at retail price of RMB799.
On top of efforts to increase smartphone market shares in China, the Group has also entered into the South Korean handset market by launching the cost-effective smartphone ALCATEL ONETOUCH IDOL CHAC under its ALCATEL ONETOUCH brand. ALCATEL ONETOUCH IDOL CHAC went on sale through SK Telecom (the largest telecom operator in South Korea) and its official online channel T-World Direct, and has received encouraging sales response.
