CHENGDU, China, October 25, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The 6th Western China International Sourcing Fair (WCISF), organized by the Sichuan Bureau of Expo Affairs, was unveiled on October 24 in Chengdu, Sichuan province, and received purchasers from many countries and regions. At the meeting, UNCTAD's vice secretary-general Petko Draganov said China is ascending in the global value chain.
As one of the major events of Western China International Fair, the WCISF has become an important investment promotion and trade cooperation platform in western China since its initiation in 2008.
CPC Sichuan Committee's vice secretary and Governor Wei Hong attended the opening ceremony. He said that Sichuan is showcasing a booming development trend with its opening-up to the world. He hoped the entrepreneurs to focus on and invest in Sichuan and leverage WCISF as an important window and platform for the new round of Western Development to seek more opportunities and development in the province.
According to UNCTAD's vice secretary-general Petko Draganov, international sourcing has seen dramatic changes over the past decade mainly because of the outstanding production capacity of developing countries, especially those in Eastern Asia, a region gradually integrated into the global value chain at the meeting.
"China has made great achievements and balanced the economy development at the stage of closely linking global value chain," said Petko Draganov. China has kept on rising in global value chain, showcasing China's changes in many activities. China offers value-added development and engages into leaner value chain. It can provide valuable experiences for other countries especially developing countries.
The WCISF will consist of ten economic and trade activities including the Field Economic and Trade Fair, 2013 China Supply Chain Management Summit, UN Purchase Introduction cum Matching Fair, and industrial matching fairs for equipment manufacturing and food industries etc.
