“Earth Hour” was first held in Sydney, Australia 2007 and 2.2 million homes and businesses turned off their lights for one hour. In 2008, the event became a global sustainability movement when up to 50 million people across 35 countries participated.

“This initiative is yet another demonstrable action in our on-going commitment to the environment and to being a responsible corporate citizen,” said Eric Musser, Chief Executive Officer of Corning Greater China. “By encouraging our businesses and employees to answer the call of energy saving, we hope to raise awareness of global warming and energy saving measures we can all support by our own acts.

“At Corning, we believe that protecting the environment makes good business sense,” Musser continued. “Whether we are building ceramic substrates for catalytic converters to help keep the air clean, or eliminating the use of hazardous chemicals in our own manufacturing processes in China, we are committed to continuous improvement.”
