Sino-Czech Cooperation in Clean Energy towards Sustainable Development

This year, the People's Republic of China and the Czech Republic are celebrating the 60th anniversary of mutual diplomatic ties and the progress achieved during this period through the joint efforts in trade, scientific, agriculture, environmental and many other sectors. This year also gives both countries a very good opportunity for the creation of a bridge between the traditional relations and the new ways of mutual cooperation, namely renewable resources of energy, environmental protection, emissions reductions, new technologies including biotechnologies, etc.

The above-mentioned new areas of cooperation were also adopted and promoted as priorities of the recent Czech Presidency of the Council of the European Union. With respect to this fact, the EU-China Environmental Business Facilitation Conference on Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) and bioenergy was organised in June 2009 by the EU-China CDM Facilitation Project, with the support from the Czech Embassy representing the Czech Presidency of the EU, Delegation of the European Commission to China, Department of Climate Change of the National Development and Reform Commission, China and the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China.

In order to ensure a follow-up of the debate on renewable resources of energy and related topics, the Embassy of the Czech Republic prepared together with the Network of Program Ecological Villages of China and the China Association for the Promotion of International Agricultural Cooperation the Sino-Czech Cooperation Forum on Clean Energy which was held on 26th October. With participation of the Czech companies and experts from the renewable energy sector and the officials, business people, media and experts from the Chinese side another opportunities for further cooperation and potential projects were presented and evaluated.

Companies and their projects in the field of renewable resources of energy between the Czech Republic and the People's Republic of China:

TEDOM Ltd.

The company is a leading producer, operator and exporter of equipment serving for a combined heat and power production, as well as by operation of technologies aimed at the use of renewable energy resources.

TEDOM is one of Europe's leading CHP manufacturers in the field of small-scale cogeneration and exports its products to more than 40 countries of the world. In 2009, the wholly foreign owned enterprise was established in Beijing of China in 2009 in order to provide the best service to customers in Eastern and South-Eastern Asia.

VITKOVICE JSC.

VITKOVICE has been manufacturing and supplying high capacity tanks screwed from glass fused to steel plates of its production to Czech as well as foreign customers for more than 40 years. Biogas stations with glass coated anaerobic reactors stabilize waste from agricultural animals (pigs, cows, fowl) and at the same time use the produced biogas to generate electrical energy -- a grant for use of renewable resources which is most often sludge from water treatment plant, agricultural excrements, palm oil mill effluent, kitchen waste or waste water from the pharmaceutical and food industries. The pilot installation of the digesters has been in operation for over fifteen years on the SPV Plevnice pig farm, another in a cow farm and duck farm in China. More than 15 000 tanks were produced and supplied to the Czech Republic, Europe, Middle East, Asia, Africa and Australia.

GREEN GAS Ltd.

Green Gas Group is a global leader in the capture of methane emissions coming from coal mines, landfill sites, biomass and other waste such as kitchen waste. Using the provisions of the Kyoto Protocol and other international regulatory authorities, Green Gas converts these emissions into clean energy and valuable carbon credits.

Founded in 2005, Green Gas has grown rapidly through natural growth and a series of merges and acquisitions. Green Gas currently operates over 50 projects worldwide at combined electrical power capacity of over 120 MWel. Green Gas DPB, the subsidiary of Green Gas Group based in the Czech Republic, is an established Czech pioneer in coal mine methane management and usage. It offers a surface and underground drilling capability as well as mine gas production and distribution.

WIKOV JSC.

The company Wikov Wind JSC. is a part of the engineering group Wikov. Wikov Wind profiles as a supplier of the technology for the wind turbines. Its products are characterized with a high utility value, which brings the customers the fundamental competitive advantage. The company is providing complete deliveries of equipment for wind power plants including the construction and service. Its Representative Office in Beijing is developing the business in China through the local experts.
