2010-05-17 10:53 1051

SHANGHAI, May 17 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- To visualize the innovative spirit of Swedish design, the Swedish National Pavilion Day on May 23 will present an exclusive cooperation between Chinese and Swedish culture, featuring dance, fashion and music. The Shanghai-based dance choreographer Jin Xing will bring life to clothes designed by some of Sweden’s most prominent designers to music made by Swedish musicians Andreas Kleerup and Andreas Unge.

All the designers chosen for the performance represent the creative and innovative spirit that is Swedish fashion in different ways. The Swedish fashion industry is in a state of redefining itself, of coming across as more innovative and with a new identity, which is why I’ve created a performance that deals with this new image, says choreographer Jin Xing.

During April and May 2010 the fashion exhibition Swedish Fashion - Exploring a New Identity has been showing at River South Art Center in Shanghai. The exhibition showcases a new wave of 13 fashion designers from Sweden. Clothes from five of these designers will be integrated in Jin Xing’s fashion performance on the Swedish National Pavilion Day on May 23 at the World Expo. The Fashion Performance is followed by concerts by Sofia Jannok, world music artist with roots in the northern Sami culture and young pop sensation Those Dancing Days.

The Fashion Performance will feature clothes designed by Diana Orving, Sandra Backlund, Martin Bergstrom, Goran Sundberg and Nakkna with the renowned Swedish dancer Virpi Pahkinen in a solo part. Original music for the performance is composed by the two popular Swedish artists Kleerup and Unge.

The aim of this project is to let young Swedish design come together with today’s modern China. We have chosen to do this through the creative cooperation with Jin Xing and her dancers. Jin Xing’s choreography has created a dynamic setting for the exposure of Swedish fashion, says Anders Ohrn, project manager at the Swedish Institute who has commissioned the performance.

The Swedish performance artist Charlotte Engelkes will host the show that takes place in Expo Center Red Hall in the presence of His Majesty King Carl XVI Gustaf, the deputy prime minister of Sweden Mrs. Maud Olofsson as well as several other accompanying delegations.
