Band Bio

In the early 1990s, the sounds of grunge reached all the way to northern Sweden, inspiring four young self-professedly bored ladies - Maria Andersson (vocals/ guitars), Josephine Forsman (drums) and sisters Jennie Asplund (guitars), Johanna Asplund (bass) - to take up the rock and roll torch.

Under the influence of Blondie, The Clash and The Ramones, Sahara Hotnights employed a seventies punk rock structure and created a ‘post-grunge’ sound of their own. A self-released debut EP, Suits Anyone Fine, was issued to critical European acclaim in 1997, and almost immediately things started to happen for Sahara Hotnights. They signed with Swedish label, Speech and issued three singles in two years: "Face Wet", "Oh Darling", "Nothing Yet". In 1999, Sahara Hotnights released their full-length debut, C’mon, Let’s Pretend, which would go on to earn two Swedish Grammy nominations.

Signing with the UK offices of major label BMG, Sahara Hotnights was propelled out from their hometown. The Drive Dead Slow EP appeared in April 2000 and the LP Jennie Bomb exuded a new confidence from the Sahara Hotnights. Now in their early twenties, the dynamic inside the band had never been better and their musicianship was tight. America finally caught on in mid-2002, and JetSet Records enabled a US release of the album. In 2004, RCA released Kiss & Tell. In 2007, the band released What if Leaving Is a Loving Thing on their own label, and followed it up with covers album Sparks in 2009; the latter was produced by Peter Bjorn and John’s Bjorn Yttling. After hitting China in the spring of 2010, the band will return to the studio for work on a new album.
